Using his platform, Rivera highlighted the ongoing discrimination faced by the trans community, citing “headline after headline about bills that prevent us from joining sports teams, accessing healthcare, or even using the bathroom.”
After Rivera’s introduction, President Biden remarked on his comfort and confidence at the podium, praising him as an inspiration. “Your story, your leadership, and your mother are just remarkable,” Biden said.
The president emphasized the stark contrast between his administration and the previous one, affirming, “Pride is back at the White House.” He called transgender youth “some of the bravest individuals,” acknowledging the courage it takes to live authentically amidst discrimination.
