As each new day dawns, I find myself confronting an overwhelming array of responsibilities. The air is thick with tasks waiting to be tackled: tidy this. Sort that. Speed up. Achieve more. The endless to-do list for parents—especially moms—can be exhausting. So, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I refuse to start my day with the unrealistic expectations that often accompany a traditional to-do list. Instead, I’m creating a to-don’t list.

From this moment forward, I will:

  • Prioritize my morning quiet time, enjoying coffee, journaling, and gazing out the window.
  • Avoid rushing my children unless there’s a real emergency.
  • Refrain from saying “hurry up” at any point during the day.
  • Step away from meaningless social media scrolling that serves no purpose.
  • Keep my composure, allowing no one to disrupt my peace.
  • Conserve my energy by steering clear of negative thoughts about others.
  • Choose moments in nature over chores, like lying on the grass watching birds or tending to my garden.
  • Withhold criticism toward my partner, regardless of how late he returns home or how often he dozes off on the couch.
  • Recognize my self-worth without comparing myself to others or worrying about external judgments.
  • Let go of guilt for any unfinished tasks.
  • Make time for that good book waiting on my shelf.
  • Be open to helping a friend in need when asked.
  • Respect my child’s food choices without questioning them.
  • Not stress if my daughter forgets her coat.
  • Embrace the bedtime routine, no matter how lengthy it becomes this week.
  • Dismiss thoughts about the vegetables we didn’t eat recently.
  • Avoid clock-watching and stressing over the day’s schedule.
  • Say yes to spontaneous fun because those moments are truly priceless.
  • Release the pursuit of perfection and allow others the same freedom.

With this newfound approach, I might just find that I’m crossing everything off my list once and for all.
