Let me just say, I’m not sure if it’s the hormones or just people being people, but as I near the finish line at 37 weeks, I’ve realized that some folks have really lost touch with how to chat with a pregnant woman. Newsflash: there’s more happening in my life than just the baby bump! And could we please stop staring? Didn’t anyone teach you that’s rude?

Honestly, there are a handful of statements and questions I hear on repeat that drive me up the wall. I’m hoping these will ease up once the little one arrives, but who knows? Here’s a rundown of the 10 most annoying things I’ve been hearing lately:

  1. “Have you chosen any names yet?” Seriously? I thought we were supposed to have this figured out before the birth, right?
  2. “Do you know what you’re having?” Well, we think it’s a human, but who really knows until the grand reveal?
  3. “You look like you’re about to pop!” Thanks for the reminder! Next, you’re going to tell me the sky is blue!
  4. “Are you planning to use pain relief during labor?” No, but I might need some to cope with your questions.
  5. “How are you feeling?” You mean the same way I felt five minutes ago when you asked me? Spoiler: it hasn’t changed!
  6. “Are you sure there’s only one in there?” Yep, just one! I also have a sock and a half-eaten sandwich tucked away!
  7. “Who will take care of the baby when you go back to work?” You mean I can’t just bring the baby along? What a bummer!
  8. “You’re STILL pregnant?” Yep, and you’re still annoying!
  9. “Did you know that girls drain their mothers’ beauty?” Wow, if you wanted to say I look tired, you could have been a bit more tactful. Thanks for the compliment!
  10. “Looks like you’ve gained a bit of weight.” Did you really just say that? Just what I needed to hear from my coworkers!

To summarize, dealing with unsolicited advice and comments during pregnancy can be quite the challenge. It’s a time filled with excitement and anticipation, but sometimes the things people say can make it feel a bit less special. Just remember, it’s okay to set boundaries and share your feelings about these interactions.
