The only requirement for borrowing is that individuals have library fines totaling less than $15. If they meet this criterion, they can check out items for three weeks.

Having access to professional attire can boost confidence significantly, according to Emily Green, the network manager of the Riverside branches. “When you look good, you feel good,” she told NPR. “It gives you a boost of confidence as you head out.”

For instance, the Arlington County Library lends out American Girl dolls for a week at a time, helping families who might struggle with the $110 price tag. This initiative, which started in 2013, quickly generated a waitlist of over sixty eager patrons, showcasing the library’s commitment to engaging the community. “Our main goal is to encourage more visits to the library,” said Jessica Young, a branch manager. “It helps connect kids with books and history.”
