Feel free to express how much you adored the latest episode of “The Witcher”, a new Marvel film, or the latest novel in a beloved series. Share your enthusiasm! But you can absolutely do that without divulging pivotal plot points in your posts. For instance, how difficult is it to say, “I absolutely loved the latest episode of The Witcher” without mentioning characters or ending twists? And yes, hashtags can be spoilers too. Just don’t do it!
Can’t you simply say, “Wow, that new character is amazing!” without revealing what they did? Why is it so hard to be mindful of others?
Most fans of popular media will likely try to catch up with new releases as soon as they can. However, life can get in the way, and sometimes it takes longer for some to watch or read something. Just because you’re able to see the latest Marvel film at midnight doesn’t mean your friend Alex can do the same. So, it would be nice if everyone could hold off on spoilers for at least the first 48 hours after a release.
As a busy single parent, finding time and finances for a movie night is challenging. I seldom watch TV, and the stress of arranging a night out to see a Marvel flick can be overwhelming. And still, spoilers always manage to pop up, adding to that frustration.
Furthermore, for those of us living in different time zones, the viewing experience can vary significantly. I reside in the Pacific time zone, which means I often have to wait three extra hours to watch shows. While your favorite character is having an epic moment on the East Coast, I’m just sitting down to dinner. During that wait, I shouldn’t have to log off social media to avoid being spoiled.
And let’s not forget those who watch shows through streaming services. I don’t have cable; like many, I rely on platforms such as Hulu or Netflix for my entertainment. This means I often can’t watch shows until a day later, making it even harder to dodge spoilers.
So, let’s be real: posting spoilers is a hassle for everyone involved. There are so many ways to share your love for popular media without ruining it for others. The burden of avoiding spoilers shouldn’t be on those who haven’t had a chance to catch up.
Consider These Alternatives:
- Create a Private Group: If you have friends who love discussing new releases right after they air, set up a separate chat or a private group on social media. This way, those who haven’t seen the show can easily avoid it.
- Use Spoiler Alerts: If you must post spoilers, at least give a warning. This allows those who want to avoid them to scroll past. You could even place spoilers in the comments for easy avoidance.
It’s not too much to ask for some basic social awareness when it comes to spoilers. You’re not being clever or funny by revealing major plot points in your posts; you’re just being inconsiderate.
Sharing your excitement about the latest “Star Wars” movie is completely fine! All we’re asking is for you to refrain from sharing the plot details. Let’s try to be a little kinder, shall we?
