You know, when my little one, Mia, was just a baby, I never really compared her to other kids. She was hitting milestones left and right, and I felt so lucky to be her mom that I didn’t even think about what everyone else was doing. But now that Mia is three, I find myself a bit jealous of those other toddlers who are already potty trained.
So, what’s the hold-up with Mia? Well, she’s been in pull-ups for over six months now. She showed signs of readiness, like being interested in the potty and even letting me know when she needed a change when she was two. Fast forward a year, and she’s still not quite there.
Sure, she’ll sit on the toilet and has peed and pooped there a few times, but it’s only when I take her. She manages to go at least once a day, but she’s not consistently trained. We’ve tried undies, but they’ve never made it without a little accident. Plus, she’s never told us or her preschool teachers when she needs to go beforehand.
I’m scratching my head here. Just last week, she insisted on wearing undies to school. I packed her with five extra pairs, and by 10 AM, she was back in pull-ups. The teachers were amazed at how much she peed. They’d take her to the potty, and she’d go a bit, only to have an accident minutes later.
So, what’s my next step? Should I just let her sit in her soiled undies or wait it out a little longer? At her recent checkup, I asked the doctor for advice. He reassured me that it’s really up to us and that if Mia’s resistant, we should give it some time. He said there’s no need to worry until she’s closer to five. I was relieved to hear that!
Still, the jealousy creeps back in whenever I hear about other kids who are fully trained. Just the other day, Mia filled her pull-up and cleared the room with the smell. It’s like, can we please get this potty thing down already? I know that accidents happen, but I just want them to happen in the toilet, you know?
