In the United States, one in three families faces the challenge of diaper need, which refers to the inability to afford diapers for their infants. This dire situation affects countless children, but you have the power to make a difference today. Huggies is collaborating with families nationwide to help alleviate this pressing issue.

How You Can Participate:

  1. Gather your little one, a partner, or a friend, and grab a box of Huggies.
  2. Play the song Suavemente and showcase your best dance moves with your family.
  3. Challenge a friend to join in the fun.
  4. Share your video on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok using the hashtag #MerengueForMoms (or submit directly to us).

Note: Videos should be under 30 seconds and must be posted by 12/31/19 to count towards the donation goal.

For every video tagged with #MerengueForMoms from December 3 to December 31, 2019, Huggies will donate 100 diapers—up to a total of one million—through the National Diaper Bank Network, which aids those families struggling with diaper need.

Understanding Diaper Need:

Diaper need affects approximately 5 million children under three years old living in poverty or low-income households. Notably, government assistance programs do not classify diapers as a basic necessity, leaving many families without adequate support. This lack of resources can severely impact parents, often preventing them from attending work or school if they cannot provide necessary diapers for childcare. Additionally, about 60% of parents report having missed work or school due to a lack of diapers.

Founded with support from Huggies, the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) is dedicated to eradicating diaper need across the nation, servicing 200,000 children each month. Huggies has already donated over 220 million diapers and wipes to the NDBN, with a commitment to provide an additional 15 million diapers every year.

A Fun Fact About Suavemente:

The anthem of the #MerengueForMoms movement is the song Suavemente, originally released in 1999 by Elvis Crespo. This track has been recognized as one of the most significant Latin albums by Billboard Magazine. Crespo has generously offered the use of this song to support low-income families, stating, “It was my pleasure to donate the song Suavemente to this effort to help babies in need.” The title translates to “softly, smoothly,” which aligns with the comfort and security every child deserves.
