How I Successfully Weaned My Baby Off Breastfeeding Without Regret

That Friday night, I sent my husband home for some much-needed rest, unaware that it would be his last full night of sleep for the next 18 years. The nurses kept bringing our little girl to me for feedings, and I couldn’t help but will my milk to come in as she nuzzled against me.

The next morning, as I shuffled to the bathroom post-surgery, I was stunned by what I saw. My once modest B-cup breasts had transformed into what felt like enormous torpedoes! I felt like I had jumped from childhood to adulthood overnight. I texted my husband, “You are going to die when you see this.”

Fortunately, my milk had arrived, and our baby began gaining weight. Thus began a beautiful 13-month breastfeeding journey. From the moment she was placed on my chest after delivery, instinctively moving to my breast, I was captivated by the bond we shared. Despite the challenges—like her falling asleep while feeding or my sleep deprivation—I cherished every moment. I often found myself awake in the nursery at odd hours, mesmerized as she nursed, thinking, “This is my pleasure.”

I turned these experiences into entertaining blog posts, even giving my breast pump a Twitter handle. I nursed in various places, from restaurants to airplanes, and traveled with my Medela Pump In Style all over, even to cities like Miami and Los Angeles.

As I look back on our time together, I’m grateful for the connection we built through breastfeeding.
