Your flight experience is about to get a fun upgrade! Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has introduced “Flying Nannies” to enhance travel for families onboard.

These specially trained nannies are dedicated to keeping kids entertained during long-haul flights. Jamie Collins, Vice President of Guest Services at Etihad Airways, explains, “The Flying Nanny works closely with parents to make traveling easier. They assist with serving children’s meals early on and provide engaging activities to keep young travelers occupied and happy.”

Etihad has already trained over 300 cabin crew members to take on this role, with plans to train an additional 60 each month. By the end of 2013, they aim to have 500 Flying Nannies ready to assist families on their journeys. Their training, which comes from Norland College, equips them with knowledge in child psychology and sociology, helping them understand various behavioral stages and developmental needs of children.

The Flying Nannies, all women, sport bright orange aprons and provide valuable support to families and unaccompanied minors. Kids will also meet Etihad’s beloved characters like Zoe the bee and Jamool the camel during their flight.

Activities provided by the nannies include crafty fun with straws, stickers, and cardboard cutouts, allowing children to explore their creativity. They’ll even introduce kids to the art of origami and offer simple magic tricks and quizzes for older travelers.

If the flight permits, the nannies will even give children a tour of the gallery. Toward the end of the journey, they help parents by refilling milk bottles and providing snacks and drinks, especially for those catching connecting flights. For families landing in Abu Dhabi, Flying Nannies can guide them through the airport’s child-friendly facilities.
