Starting a family is priceless, but the expenses associated with infertility treatments can be staggering. For instance, the average cost of one IVF cycle is around $12,400, which is a significant source of anxiety for many women. A recent study by Prosper Marketplace found that the majority of women undergoing IVF typically go through at least two cycles.
The study surveyed 213 women aged 25 to 54, all of whom had attempted to conceive for at least six months before seeking medical assistance. A striking 84 percent of these women identified the financial burden of treatment as their primary concern. While younger women were more preoccupied with emotional and societal pressures surrounding IVF, the overarching worry across all ages remained the cost.
This concern is indeed justified, as less than 50 percent of insurance plans cover these treatments. Alarmingly, over 20 percent of women reported that their insurance provided no coverage at all. Consequently, about 70 percent of respondents have incurred debt due to treatments, with nearly half of those aged 25 to 34 having debts exceeding $10,000.
Interestingly, half of the women indicated that the cost directly influenced the type of treatment they chose to pursue.
