A distressing video that has gone viral on social media depicts a white man obstructing a Black delivery driver in a gated community in Oklahoma. The man, identified as the president of the homeowners association (HOA), relentlessly interrogated the driver while preventing him from leaving the neighborhood.
The delivery driver, who goes by the name of Marcus Johnson, shared the footage on his Facebook page, which has since gained widespread attention from local news sources and online platforms. In the recording, the HOA president, Thomas Jacobs, is seen demanding to know why Johnson is in the community and who provided him with the gate code.
“I want to know where you’re going?” Jacobs is heard asking in the video. “It’s none of your business. I’m leaving, that’s all you need to know,” Johnson responds, expressing frustration at being trapped. Jacobs continued to press him with questions, asking, “All we want to know is why you’re in here.”
Johnson, choosing not to engage further, recorded the entire incident live on Facebook for nearly 30 minutes. In an interview with a local news station, he explained his hesitation to disclose his customer’s information, highlighting the invasion of privacy he felt.
As the confrontation escalated, Johnson became visibly upset, even calling the police himself. Sadly, authorities did not arrive at the scene, and it took over an hour for Jacobs to move his vehicle. “They must have contacted my customer because he eventually came and moved the car,” Johnson told dispatch, indicating that he wanted to avoid appearing as if he were fleeing.
In a heartfelt moment, Johnson revealed that the altercation was particularly emotional for him due to the recent loss of three family members. The tragic murder of Ahmaud Arbery, who was killed while jogging in a neighborhood, weighed heavily on his mind during the confrontation. “I knew if I got out of this truck, regardless of the situation, I would be in the wrong,” he said. “I always remind myself that I have to return home to my family.”
