Mark your calendars! Queer Eye is returning to Netflix on June 5, 2020. The beloved series is back to remind us that there’s still goodness in the world. Admittedly, I experienced a bit of Queer Eye burnout after the rapid release of four seasons, along with special editions like the Japan trip. It felt overwhelming to keep pace with the Fab Five, right? Yet, in these challenging times of a global pandemic, I find myself craving heartwarming and uplifting content—and Queer Eye fits the bill perfectly.
What to Expect This Season
This season, Antoni, Bobby, Jonathan, Karamo, and Tan are heading to Philadelphia! The show teased fans on Twitter, saying, “This Gayflower couldn’t hit land soon enough! Who’s ready for the season of brotherly love?!?! Grab your oars and an absorbent box of tissues because Queer Eye Season 5 is arriving in Philly, June 5th!”
Unlike previous seasons, this one will feature an unprecedented 10 episodes. While details are scarce and the trailer hasn’t been released yet, resident chef Antoni shared insights with Entertainment Weekly, hinting that this season will embrace greater diversity compared to earlier seasons that predominantly showcased stories from Atlanta’s outskirts.
Antoni noted, “We’re able to continue to champion diversity and I think that’s what’s so great about the fact that we get to travel and go to different cities because those experiences are so different.” He elaborated on Philadelphia’s cosmopolitan vibe, emphasizing the rich diversity and unique narratives that come with it.
Missing the Fab Five
While we’ve enjoyed Antoni’s “Quar Eye: Cooking Lessons in Quarantine” on Instagram lately, there’s nothing quite like the emotional depth and production quality of the actual show. During these uncertain COVID-19 times, I can only long to hear Jonathan whispering self-care affirmations to a man on a journey of discovering moisturizer for the first time. Just three more weeks until Queer Eye!
