As the countdown to the inauguration of Joe Biden ticks down to just four days, the Trump administration is in the process of vacating the White House. For those of us who need tangible evidence of this transition, a plethora of images capturing this noteworthy moment has surfaced. Given Trump’s prolonged contestation of the election results, the reality of his departure was uncertain until now.
Moving can be a daunting task, but the complexity of moving out of the White House is on another level, even with the assistance of a large team. The idea of leaving the White House while insisting—almost petulantly—that he did not lose the election must be a bitter pill to swallow. Thus, the sight of countless moving boxes outside the White House is, quite frankly, an uplifting vision.
According to reports from NBC News, a truck was spotted unloading several cardboard boxes at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which accommodates most of the official staff. In light of the ongoing pandemic, President-elect Biden has also ordered a thorough cleaning of the premises. While the contents of these boxes remain a mystery, one could humorously speculate they contain unmet ambitions, spray tan, his old social media credentials, and perhaps even some infamous emails.
Traditionally, the outgoing and incoming presidents manage to complete their moves within roughly five hours, before departing together to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony. However, the Trump presidency has been anything but conventional. In related news, Jill Biden mentioned that she and the president-elect have been busy packing up their lives in Wilmington, Delaware, while Melinda Trump has reportedly been transferring items to Mar-a-Lago for some time now.
This significant move comes in the wake of the House’s decision to impeach Trump for a second time after he incited his supporters to “fight like hell” against the election outcome, leading to chaos at the Capitol that resulted in multiple fatalities. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to “search their souls,” asserting that Trump “must go” as he poses a “clear and present danger” to the nation.
As noted by The Washington Post, Biden is set to stay at Blair House the night before the inauguration, a ceremony Trump has indicated he will not attend. After leaving office, Trump is expected to relocate to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Cheers to this long-awaited transition!
