You know how when you’re pregnant, everyone suddenly feels like they can share their opinions? Well, when I was expecting my twins, it felt like I had a magnifying glass on me for all the unsolicited advice out there. Most people chimed in with comments like “double trouble” or “you’re really gonna have your hands full!” And when they learned I was having a boy and a girl, many congratulated me as if I’d just achieved some sort of parenting jackpot. As if having one of each was the only perfect setup—like, really?
This past year has been a whirlwind, no doubt about it, with challenges I never imagined. But not once did I think, “Alright, that’s it; I’m done!” I always knew I wanted to be a mom, though I wasn’t sure how many kids I’d want in total. Now that I’ve had my hands full with twins, the thought of having more is still very much alive in my heart.
Honestly, even though pregnancy wasn’t my favorite experience, I find myself yearning to go through it again (fingers crossed for just one baby next time!). The journey from being “me” to becoming “mom” has been such an eye-opener, and pregnancy played a huge role in that transformation. It feels odd to think about not experiencing that profound change again.
My partner, Jake, is way more practical than I am. He’s been through the ups and downs of raising twins alongside me and, I suspect, he might be ready to focus all his attention on the two we already have. He insists that I need some logical reasons for wanting another baby. But honestly? My feelings might not be logical, but they’re real.
I know that my job as a mom has only just begun and there’s so much I need to do and enjoy with my two little ones. However, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to go through this incredible journey again as a family. To sum it up, whether or not we stick with two kids or expand our family further, the journey of motherhood is uniquely personal. It’s filled with love, challenges, and countless moments that make it all worthwhile.
