The Stats:

  • Name: Sarah Collins
  • Age: 34
  • Occupation: Actress and Photographer
  • Children: Two; Mia (3 years) and Jake (1 year)

Did you have any apprehensions about breastfeeding before starting?

Sarah admits, “I was really worried that breastfeeding wouldn’t feel right for me, or that it would feel strange. But as I got closer to giving birth, my desire to breastfeed grew stronger. It started to feel like the most natural choice.”

What challenges did you encounter?

“Absolutely, I faced some hurdles. I dealt with mastitis with both kids. I remember being in so much pain and running a fever, thinking, ‘What on earth is going on?’ Once I figured out it was mastitis, my doctor advised me to keep breastfeeding. It was tough, but pushing through the pain really helped. She was spot on—breastfeeding was the key.”

Did you feel pressured to stop?

“I was fortunate in that respect. My family and friends were really supportive, and I didn’t encounter anyone pressuring me to stop. It made it easier to stick with it.”

What motivated you to continue?

“For me, breastfeeding was all about the bond. It sounds cliché, but those moments when they’d feed and give me a little tickle under my arm felt like pure magic. I knew I was giving them exactly what they needed, and that felt incredible.”

Looking back, how do you feel about your experience?

“I’m genuinely grateful that breastfeeding was part of my life. I cherish that connection and feel proud that my kids got the best start possible. They’ve been really healthy with hardly any ear infections. As a mom, it’s so nice to feel like you’ve done something good for your little ones.”

Any lighthearted moments to share?

“Oh, definitely! Because I’m on the smaller side, I loved how much my breasts changed postpartum. For Halloween, I dressed as a French maid with this massive push-up bra, and it was hilarious! Another funny moment happened while I was breastfeeding in front of a friend—it squirted right onto her face! We even had a little competition to see how far it would shoot out, which was a blast, even if it didn’t go as far as we hoped.”
