In a significant move just weeks after his inauguration, President Joe Biden has announced the revival of an office dedicated to women’s issues that was eliminated by the Trump administration in 2017. Biden has established a new Gender Policy Council within the White House, which is said to be a reimagining of the Obama-era Council on Women and Girls. The Institute for Women’s Policy Research welcomed the establishment of the council, expressing optimism about its potential to address critical issues such as the gender pay gap, reproductive rights, and the fight against sexual violence. Dr. Lynn Carter, the president of the IWPR, remarked, “The previous administration rolled back many advances for women. Now we have a chance to create policies that align with our values and foster a more just society.”
