Netflix is set to launch Michelle Obama’s delightful new children’s cooking show, Waffles + Mochi, on March 16. If you’re a fan of Netflix, you’ll be thrilled to hear that Michelle Obama is collaborating with two delightful puppets to create a show that not only entertains but also serves a meaningful purpose.
“I’ve got some exciting news for all of you!” Obama shared on her social media. “This has been in the works for quite some time, and I’m overjoyed to finally reveal it. Meet my two new pals, Waffles and Mochi! We’ll be debuting our new children’s show on Netflix called Waffles + Mochi on March 16.”
According to Netflix, this charming series features Waffles and Mochi embarking on global ingredient quests, visiting kitchens, restaurants, farms, and homes worldwide, cooking delicious recipes with everyday ingredients alongside famous chefs, home cooks, children, and even celebrities.
But who are Waffles and Mochi, and how did they come to be? “Once upon a thyme, in the Land of Frozen Food, two best friends named Waffles and Mochi had one shared dream: to become chefs!” Netflix explained in a press release. “When these two culinary buddies are unexpectedly hired at a whimsical supermarket, they’re ready for the culinary adventure of a lifetime.” And who better to guide them on this journey than Mrs. Obama? No one else fits the bill.
Obama expressed that “Kids will enjoy it, but I believe adults will find plenty of humor—and some useful kitchen tips.” She also noted how the ongoing pandemic has affected families, hoping the show will bring joy back into homes.
In line with this spirit of support, the show will also contribute to families during these challenging times. “We’re collaborating with our partners at the Partnership for a Healthier America to provide fresh ingredients to families in need across the country, so they can cook together at home,” she mentioned.
Since leaving the White House, Obama has kept busy. In May 2020, a documentary called Becoming, which chronicles her life post-White House, also premiered on Netflix. The film, named after her best-selling memoir, follows the former First Lady on her 34-city book tour.
As we seek ways to enhance our at-home dining experiences and have fun while doing so, Obama steps in once again with a show designed to engage the entire family and teach us new culinary skills. Who knows, maybe our kids will be inspired to try more than just chicken nuggets (a parent can dream).
