“Nature’s Cereal” is the newest food craze on TikTok, and my family can’t get enough of it!
Around a year ago, my daughter discovered a whipped coffee recipe on TikTok that made the initial days of quarantine much more enjoyable for her. We also tried pickles wrapped in Hot Cheetos, which quickly became a favorite snack that I could barely keep stocked. Most recently, we indulged in the viral Baked Feta Pasta, which was a hit! So, it’s safe to say that I’ve swapped out my cookbooks and Pinterest finds for TikTok food trends since that’s what my kids prefer. After all, if it brings us together in the kitchen and around the dining table, I’m all for it!
When my daughter showed me a video of Lizzo enjoying a bowl of berries in coconut water, dubbed “Nature’s Cereal,” we had to give it a shot. Although we’ve never had coconut water before, we’re big fans of coconut milk. Plus, we go through berries so quickly in our house that I knew they would get eaten up, even if this cereal didn’t turn out so great.
However, when I got to the store, I was disappointed to find no pomegranate seeds—the key ingredient! I’m not sure if it’s the March weather in the northeast or if they were just out of stock. Regardless, I settled for raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. My daughter insisted on getting the “good” coconut water, so I picked some up and headed home to see if this TikTok trend would be as delightful as the creamy pasta dish we made earlier.
Why We Loved Nature’s Cereal
Yes, it’s just fruit, coconut water, and some ice cubes, but wow, it was delicious! Here’s why I was thrilled with it:
- My kids loved it. It’s often a struggle to get them to eat healthily, so this was a win!
- It was super refreshing and will make for a perfect summer snack.
- I was surprised by how filling it was—I expected to feel unsatisfied, but it was surprisingly nourishing and visually appealing.
Nature’s Cereal can serve as a fantastic breakfast on its own or alongside eggs. It also doubles as a healthy dessert. However, if you’re hoping it will replace your sugary cereals or favorite granolas, it likely won’t. We still enjoy our crunchy cereals in this house. But if you think of it as a simple, deconstructed smoothie that requires less effort and is a healthy snack, you might really enjoy it.
Initially, I was hesitant to add ice cubes, thinking they would dilute the flavor, but I was wrong. The ice is essential for keeping the coconut water chilled, enhancing the taste. I’m eager to try it with pomegranate seeds when I can find some (I’ve heard Trader Joe’s usually carries them, though the nearest one is 45 minutes away). Even without them, this snack was a hit at home.
I must confess, I sampled it the next day with granola sprinkled on top, and it was even better! Who says you can’t mix Nature’s Cereal with traditional cereal? There are no rules here!
