I’ve had enough. After four decades, I am finally finished with worrying about what others think of me. Throughout my life, I’ve been labeled as beautiful, ugly, fat, and skinny. I’ve faced criticism for my voice and my words. People have thrown every possible insult my way, but I refuse to let their opinions dictate my self-worth any longer.
In my career, male colleagues once suggested that losing just ten pounds would boost my professional advancement. Their words made me self-conscious about my appearance, leading me to conceal my body’s natural curves and imperfections. I was so preoccupied with how I looked that it hindered my ability to fully engage in both my work and personal life. But now? I’m over it.
Years spent fixating on my flaws have transformed into a celebration of who I am, inside and out. Yes, I have bumps and cellulite, but they’re a testament to my humanity. Those scars tell the story of my journey to motherhood. The post-pregnancy softness I carried? It’s a badge of honor, a reminder that my body brought triplets and a rainbow baby into the world! I’ve learned to embrace and even love the things I once wanted to change. I am done seeking validation from others.
Now that I’m in my 40s, I exercise not to fit a mold but because it brings me joy. I choose clothes that make me feel good, not what I think others expect of me. As for makeup? I wear it for work, but my true beauty shines through when I’m relaxed at home in sweats, makeup-free, surrounded by my family.
So, listen closely. The next time you catch yourself fretting over others’ opinions, take a good look in the mirror. It’s time to prioritize yourself and pursue what makes you happy, not what others think you should do. Those little quirks I used to criticize are now my favorite aspects of myself.
I am finished. I am finished with caring about superficial judgments. I am finished with the opinions of others. When I look at my reflection, I see a strong woman confidently shielding herself from negativity, all because she declared, “I am done.”
