Addressing the resistance some people feel towards mask mandates, McConaughey appealed to the Texan spirit of independence. “We’re nearing the end of this,” he stated. “Wearing a mask is a small inconvenience. It’s not the mask itself we fear, but the word ‘Mandate.’”
He highlighted that masks could help restore freedoms in the future. “Now it’s our choice. I urge all Texans and people everywhere—if you have the option, keep wearing masks,” he said. “They’ve been shown to be effective. We’re almost there, let’s stay the course.”
McConaughey, who lives in a county where masks are still mandated, is also contemplating a run for Texas governor. “I’m seriously considering it,” he noted. “It’s an honorable position and I want to understand what it means for Texas.”
