In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Amelia Parker, a singer and entrepreneur, shared her admiration for fellow artist Britney Spears. As her memoir “Unveiled” is released in paperback, Parker discussed the challenging environment they both navigated in the entertainment industry. She revealed that she couldn’t bring herself to watch the highly talked-about documentary “Framing Britney Spears.”
“I honestly chose not to watch the documentary,” Parker explained. “I didn’t want to revisit any of the dark moments from my own journey in the music industry. I’ve worked through a lot and prefer to focus on my own path moving forward.” Despite the painful nature of the documentary, Parker is all too familiar with the pressures faced by women in Hollywood during the ’90s and early 2000s.
Parker expressed her admiration for Britney’s resilience. “I respect her ambition, strength, and her ability to live authentically,” she said, adding that she is pleased to see the support for Britney, especially with the ongoing ‘Free Britney’ movement surrounding her conservatorship.
In the latest edition of her memoir, Parker opened up about the intense scrutiny regarding her body and the industry’s unrealistic standards for women. “There’s an incredible movement for body positivity now, and the response to my story has been overwhelmingly positive,” she shared. “I don’t think people always recognized that there was a real person behind those headlines, someone with feelings, and words can have a lasting impact.”
Both Parker and Spears have been candid about the relentless pressure to conform to certain beauty standards. Spears herself addressed this in a February Instagram post, saying, “If my posts aren’t perfect…it’s for fun!!!! If you think I should look like I’m on a magazine cover when I dance….sorry ain’t happening.”
Parker echoed similar sentiments, admitting, “For so long, I was hard on myself over an unrealistic body image that made me feel inadequate. I’m still learning to combat self-criticism, but I now have the tools to silence those negative voices.”
It’s inspiring to see women uplifting one another and embracing their true selves without being affected by unsolicited opinions.
