American Girl is celebrating its 35th anniversary by re-releasing its six iconic original dolls—Molly, Samantha, and their friends! If you, like me, grew up in the ’90s with a budget-conscious mom who nearly fainted at the sight of their price tags, you probably missed out on owning one of these beloved dolls. I dreamed of having Molly for years (my mom eventually bought her along with two other AG dolls for my daughter, so I’m totally fine about it—no lingering trauma here, promise!). Now, as we find ourselves in the roles of parents, American Girl is giving us a chance to revisit those nostalgic days by bringing back the original six dolls.

While you could certainly purchase one for your child, why not indulge your inner child as well? After all, many of us now have adult incomes (unless, of course, unexpected car repairs or kids’ braces come into play—ugh!). The six classic dolls—Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, Molly McIntire, Felicity Merriman, Addy Walker, and Josefina Montoya—are currently available on the American Girl website and are just as enchanting as we remember from our childhoods.

These original dolls have been retired since the mid-2010s, with the first three dolls—Samantha, Kirsten, and Molly—being discontinued between 2008 and 2013, while Felicity, Addy, and Josefina followed later. Until now, the only way to snag one of these originals was through eBay or a fortunate find at a garage sale. At a retail price of $150, this is a much more accessible option compared to the thousands you might spend on an authentic vintage doll.

“For 35 years, American Girl has created powerful stories with intelligent and brave heroines that have resonated with generations of women,” said Jamie Cygielman, General Manager of American Girl, in a press release. “As we mark this significant milestone, we’re excited to honor the very first generation of American girls who grew up with these cherished characters and contributed to their legacy. Knowing that many of these women are now moms themselves, we look forward to fostering special, multi-generational experiences for families through their shared affection for the brand. We can’t wait to inspire and empower the next generation with even more relevant products, immersive experiences, and timeless narratives.”

Each doll is part of a special 35th Anniversary Collection, which includes a classic 18-inch doll dressed in her original outfit and authentic accessories, along with the character’s first paperback book featuring a vintage cover. Plus, the dolls come in collectible retro-inspired packaging. Yes, please!

Additionally, there are exciting anniversary events planned, such as a book filled with advice from the American Girls, a digital album of character-inspired songs, and a virtual cupcake-decorating party on May 8th with Bobbie Lloyd, Chief Baking Officer at Magnolia Bakery.

Getting my cherished Molly doll in my late 30s (or Samantha, I wouldn’t mind either) may not feel quite the same as receiving her in 1992, but it will still be pretty awesome. Thankfully, American Girl gives us the opportunity to relive our childhood memories.
