Last night on Saturday Night Live, viewers were treated to a showcase of Keegan-Michael Key’s immense talent. He not only opened the show with a musical number but also participated in a brilliant parody of the famed Michael Jordan documentary, The Last Dance. However, the highlight was undoubtedly the skit inspired by The Muppet Show, which had both the audience and the cast, including Kenan Thompson, in stitches.

In the sketch, Kermit the Frog, portrayed by Key, hosted The Muppet Show alongside Melissa Villaseñor’s Lily Tomlin. Their fun was quickly interrupted by the notorious hecklers Statler and Waldorf from the balcony.

“Friends, our show tonight is gonna be a blast!” Kermit announces to the audience.

“Yeah, ‘cuz it’s a bomb!” Statler shoots back, with Waldorf chuckling along.

That’s when Thompson and Key enter as two overzealous security guards determined to keep order. “Hey! Shut up!” Thompson barks at the hecklers, but their taunts continue.

“I’m not gonna tell you again,” Key warns, “What happens next is up to you.”

Waldorf counters with, “But the show is bad,” to which Key replies, “Then you are more than welcome to leave!”

The hilarity escalates when Key joins the hecklers in the balcony, leading to a bizarre and comedic turn of events that causes Thompson to break character. In a surprising twist, Key comically takes down Statler, leaving him with swollen purple eyes, prompting uncontrollable laughter from Thompson.

As the security guards realize the Muppets have no legs, they quickly apologize. “Oh snap! We didn’t know you guys were veterans,” Key says earnestly. “Thank you for your service.”

They then join in on the heckling, mistakenly calling Kermit “Kramer” and throwing out playful insults.

Key’s other standout moment from the night was a parody of The Last Dance, featuring him as Michael Jordan in a scene where he places a bet with his body double, played by Heidi Gardner. Chris Redd and Kenan Thompson also joined in, recreating their own versions of Dennis Rodman and Charles Barkley.

“If you’re not playing to win, why play?” Key quips, resonating with viewers who loved the humor throughout the night.
