Lio Tipton, recognized for their role in the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love and as a contestant on America’s Next Top Model, has publicly embraced their identity as queer and non-binary. In a heartfelt post on Instagram to mark Pride Month, Tipton shared their journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
“Hello, I’m Lio. My pronouns are they/them,” they wrote in the June 3 post, alongside an illustrated image. “I am proud to announce I am queer and identify as non-binary. I strive to reciprocate the love and support I receive from the Pride community. 🏳️🌈❤️ Lio.”
When a follower inquired about the significance of identifying as queer and non-binary, Tipton thoughtfully elaborated, stating, “It means that I do not align with the traditional binary gender structure. I have long felt constrained within a single category. This identity allows me to understand myself beyond societal expectations. I’ve consciously chosen to identify as non-binary. My pansexuality is distinct from my gender identity. I just don’t fit into a box; it feels too claustrophobic. Each person’s experience is uniquely theirs, and that’s the beauty of it. I hope this explanation helps.”
Tipton first gained fame in 2008 as a contestant on America’s Next Top Model and has since ventured into acting and music, sharing their creative works with fans on social media. It’s inspiring to see Tipton living authentically and engaging in meaningful conversations that promote greater understanding of diverse identities. Such openness is crucial in fostering cultural awareness for everyone.
