Before 2016, many of us who leaned left could engage in meaningful discussions with those on the right. I personally found value in understanding conservative viewpoints. However, the political landscape has dramatically shifted since then, largely due to the Republican party’s unwavering support for a figure who embodies divisiveness. Families are now fractured, friendships have dissolved, and conflict seems to be the norm. Many have reached a breaking point, declaring, “I’m done” with attempting to bridge the gap with those who cling to conspiracy theories and misinformation. We wish them well in finding clarity, but we refuse to accommodate bigotry, hatred, and the former president’s legacy.
It’s disheartening to see how many of my conservative acquaintances believe a higher power endorsed Donald Trump yet deny the same for Joe Biden. Talk about selective faith.
