“You’re stunning,” he declared, prompting a stiff “Thank you” from Carter. He continued, “I hope I’m not on camera,” as she visibly shifted in discomfort. “But why are you over here on camera?” he pressed. In an attempt to redirect the conversation, Carter curtly replied, “Go Watch Spectrum News. Find a TV and watch Spectrum News.”
Carter’s body language shifted, a familiar response for many women who often find themselves on the receiving end of unsolicited remarks while simply doing their job, exercising, or going about their daily lives. Then, the man escalated his comments further: “That’s why I can’t be left alone with a Black woman… or a Mulatto. I can’t stand these fucking white girls.”
Carter swiftly ended the interaction, stating, “Alright, we are done here. Have a great rest of your day.” However, the man continued to belittle her: “You are sexy as hell,” leaving her feeling both disrespected and resigned.
Carter later took to Twitter to express her frustration, stating: “Oh, men these days just can’t give compliments. The first man’s ‘you look nice’ was fine, but the second man took it to a disgusting level.” She also shared her disbelief at the audacity of some men, emphasizing, “What makes you think women want to be talked to that way? It’s uncomfortable and gross.”
