There’s something undeniably satisfying about the crispy pasta bits that line the edges of a lasagna or baked ziti. As a child, I fondly remember my mom making a delicious pasta pie filled with spaghetti, sauce, meat, and cheese, all baked to perfection in a pie dish. The crispy edges were my favorite part, with their wonderful crunch and caramelized cheese.
So, when I stumbled upon the Pasta Chips recipe taking TikTok by storm, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of vindication. Finally, there are others who appreciate those crispy pasta pieces! I was also a bit annoyed I hadn’t thought of it first. Now, I can whip up a batch of these delectable snacks in around half an hour, no waiting for a full dish to bake.
This recipe is incredibly easy and customizable to your taste by incorporating various spices and cheeses. It’s also a fantastic way to satisfy those salty cravings—perfect for when I’m feeling a bit off and need a treat all to myself.
Instructions
To start, boil your favorite pasta shape; I opted for ziti since it’s great for dipping. Once cooked, ensure it’s thoroughly dried—I simply patted mine with a dish towel.
Now for the fun part: generously coat your pasta with olive oil and sprinkle on your choice of spices. Italian seasoning, oregano, basil, crushed red pepper, and lemon pepper are just a few options that can elevate the flavor.
Don’t skimp on the Parmesan cheese either. You want that richness to shine through. You can choose to air fry your pasta or bake it in the oven at 400°F for about 20 minutes. I used the oven and it worked wonderfully. The generous amount of oil and cheese gave it a fried taste that was delightful!
Once baked, you can top it with grated mozzarella and fresh herbs if you’d like to get a bit fancy (which I plan to do next time). These pasta chips make a perfect appetizer for any Italian meal, and the dipping options are endless.
I paired mine with tomato sauce, which I had on hand and loved. Ranch or blue cheese dressing would also complement these chips nicely. I’ve heard that a whipped feta dip—a blend of feta, Greek yogurt, olive oil, and garlic—has become popular, and I can’t wait to try that next time!
This recipe was a hit at home! Even my kids, who usually avoid well-done pasta because they call it “burned,” loved these chips. They were especially drawn to the red pepper flakes, which makes sense given their current obsession with anything spicy.
If you’re skeptical about the idea of pasta being fried and coated with cheese and spices, you should definitely give it a shot. I’m confident you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Plus, it’s super easy to make, and you likely have most of the ingredients in your pantry.
The best part? I finally have a delicious use for leftover pasta. After our family pasta night, I can bake the remaining pasta into chips the next day, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
