As COVID-19 cases rise across the United States, Disney is reintroducing indoor mask requirements at its theme parks. The new rules align with recent CDC recommendations urging Americans to wear masks in high-risk areas, which certainly applies to states hosting Disney parks.
Florida, the location of Disney World, is currently experiencing over 12,000 new infections daily—one of the highest rates in the nation, with hospitals overwhelmed by coronavirus patients, mostly unvaccinated. The vaccination rate in Florida lags behind other states, with only half of adults vaccinated. California, home to Disneyland, is also facing challenges with about 7,500 new daily cases and has updated its indoor mask guidelines to recommend masking for everyone, regardless of vaccination status.
The mask mandate is likely to be met with mixed reactions, as masks have become a divisive issue in the U.S. However, with the ongoing pandemic, wearing masks is a crucial measure to prevent further closures.
