Full name Leo James Aydin, Skylar shares their son with partner Jordan Aydin. When Leo was born, new parent Skylar expressed their feelings on Instagram saying, “I am filled with gratitude for the most ‘rare’ and euphoric birth, powered by love.” This latest post is just one way that Skylar is dedicated to honoring the beauty of pregnant and postpartum bodies.
Skylar’s commitment to normalizing breastfeeding resonates throughout their life and work, notably with the cover of their recent album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which features the artist seated on a throne with a baby and one breast exposed, reminiscent of classical renaissance art. “This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something to be admired,” Skylar elaborated on Instagram. “We have a long way to go with eradicating social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. Skylar also reflected on their journey during pregnancy, indicating that their recent exploration of gender identity may have been influenced by the experience. “I’ve been thinking lots about my body; it’s strange to watch yourself change so quickly,” they noted in a series of pregnancy selfies. “I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood’ but truly it has leveled my perception of gender entirely.”
