I am writing to announce my immediate resignation from my role as the person responsible for all things culinary. It has been a joy to serve in this position, and over the past fifteen years, I have gained valuable skills and insights. These include, but are not limited to, preparing multiple dinners each night to cater to various dietary preferences (often referred to as pickiness), crafting a weekly grocery list, and navigating the grocery aisles to fulfill that list. I’ve become adept at unloading groceries solo about 90% of the time, creating a menu that pleases everyone, savoring only lukewarm meals, and managing the dishwasher daily.
While I embraced this role when I first took it on, I’ve come to realize that as my responsibilities expanded, the gratitude, recognition, and support I received did not keep pace. Instead, I have often faced complaints, criticism, and a significant lack of engagement from the rest of the household staff and diners. Therefore, it’s time for us to part ways.
I want to reassure you that I am still committed to supporting the family. Although I will no longer oversee everything related to food, I will continue to contribute financially to our grocery and meal expenses.
I am ready to assist in training a replacement to ensure a seamless transition. However, I expect the following tasks to be outstanding on my final day. While I will do my best to complete them, please consider them as routine responsibilities:
- Create a weekly grocery list
- Order groceries online, ensuring family input to avoid any frustration from forgotten items
- Pick up groceries from the store
- Make a quick trip back if something is missed, while avoiding lengthy chats with acquaintances
- Unpack and organize all groceries, keeping in mind that only I know where everything goes
- Prepare hot meals for everyone in the house, which includes making two dinners daily
- Clean up after each meal, including doing the dishes and running the dishwasher
- Empty the dishwasher and start the cycle all over again
After considering the above responsibilities, it’s clear that this position is far too demanding for one person, unless it is their sole focus. Should you decide to redesign the role, I would consider returning on a part-time basis with a capable team.
Thank you for the opportunities and experiences over the years. I look forward to seeing you around since I’ll still be handling my other responsibilities, like managing laundry, coordinating family logistics including doctor appointments, and overseeing schoolwork and social activities.
Wishing you all the best.
Sincerely,
Mom
