In an exciting announcement, actress Selina Jones has shared the trailer for her forthcoming documentary, Introducing, Selina Jones, alongside an uplifting update regarding her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis (MS). Since revealing her diagnosis in 2018, Jones has utilized social media to connect with fans, offering insights into her health journey and advocating for those with chronic illnesses.
The documentary will provide an intimate look at her life following the diagnosis, set to premiere in October. The impactful trailer features Jones exploring experimental treatments to manage her symptoms while also striving to be present for her 10-year-old son, Ethan, even during her most challenging moments.
In the trailer directed by filmmaker Rachel Fleit, Jones poignantly states, “I was advised to prepare for dying. Not because I have MS, but because I’m battling it.” According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS is a variable and often debilitating disease of the central nervous system that impedes communication within the brain and between the brain and body. Approximately 2.3 million individuals worldwide are affected by MS, with a higher prevalence in women. Most diagnoses occur between the ages of 20 and 50.
Since her diagnosis, reports indicate that Jones has undergone both stem cell treatment and chemotherapy to enhance her immune system, and she appears to be thriving. At a recent press event for the documentary, she shared, “My prognosis is excellent. I’m in remission. The stem cell treatment put me in remission, and it took about a year for the inflammation and lesions to significantly decrease.”
Jones expressed hesitance about sharing her health updates publicly, fearing a potential downturn. “I was hesitant to discuss it because I felt I needed to be more healed and fixed,” she reflected. “I’ve accumulated a lifetime of experiences that still need some sorting or acceptance. It took me a while to reach that level of acceptance. My journey doesn’t mirror everyone else’s.”
The support from those around her has played a crucial role in her journey. “People have taken great care of me. I never really liked life before; now I do — it’s strange, isn’t it? … I’m truly having the time of my life.”
Jones hopes that by sharing her narrative, she can help normalize conversations around chronic illnesses and provide comfort to others facing similar challenges. “By simply showing up with a cane or discussing something that may be embarrassing, I’ve been able to help many find solace in themselves, which means everything to me,” she stated. “I’m excited that I have a platform. I’m not claiming to speak for everyone with this condition or any chronic illness; I’m sharing my journey. If my story helps normalize the conversation and encourages others to share theirs, I’m grateful.”
