While this is a significant technological advancement for the parks, there’s a catch. To skip the lines at the most sought-after attractions, guests will need to purchase access to the Lightning Lane through the Genie+ upgrade, which costs an additional $15 per ticket per day at Disneyland in California and $20 at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Lightning Lane grants access to over 15 attractions at Disneyland and more than 40 at Disney World. Along with this, Genie+ offers additional benefits such as exclusive audio features, augmented reality lenses, and unlimited PhotoPass downloads. However, many park enthusiasts are more concerned about the loss of free Fast Pass access, and the backlash has been significant.
Just a year prior, Disney had already raised ticket prices, surpassing $200 for a single day for the first time. Despite the criticism, Disney executives remain committed to the new plan. Mark Johnson, the Disney Parks director, stated that the Genie and Genie+ apps are intended to enhance guest experiences by leveraging decades of data on attraction performance and visitor behavior.
