The anticipated ‘Sunnydale: The Farewell Tour’ has unfortunately been canceled due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. Can’t we just catch a break? Creators and stars Charlie and Dan Morgan announced the decision via Twitter on August 20, expressing their regret to their “amazing” fans. Initially announced in May 2020, just weeks before the show’s conclusion after six successful seasons, the tour was set to feature behind-the-scenes footage, cast anecdotes, and opportunities for fans to engage with the beloved creators and cast of the award-winning series.

Joining the Morgans were stars like Lisa Thompson, Annie Lee, Emily Carter, and Noah Clarke, all set to tour across 18 cities nationwide. Like many other live events over the past two years, the tour was postponed to prioritize health and safety.

“When we decided to delay the Sunnydale: The Farewell Tour, we hoped we could still connect with you this year. However, despite our best intentions to reschedule while considering your health, we’ve come to the tough conclusion that differing state and local guidelines make it too challenging to proceed in the near future. Thus, we’ve made the difficult choice to cancel all pre-pandemic tour dates,” the duo shared.

“We sincerely regret not being able to meet you, and we will keep searching for ways to connect in the future,” they added. Ticket holders will receive immediate refunds upon cancellation.

While many fans are understandably disappointed, they recognize the importance of prioritizing safety. Though it’s disheartening not to hear Lisa Thompson say “baby” live, the decision to cancel seems wise given that many venues were indoor and not all had consistent mask or vaccine mandates.

Fans appreciated the example set by the Morgans in making such a difficult yet necessary decision. Others took the opportunity to gently request one last season of Sunnydale. Most importantly, fans expressed their gratitude for the show during these uncertain times. Sunnydale’s following grew immensely during the pandemic, providing a heartwarming escape when needed most. It was a show that united people even when they were apart. Don’t forget to fold in the cheese!
