Do you think older generations realize just how much they’ve impacted our lives negatively? Their entitlement and indifference to pressing issues like the environment, combined with their “just work harder” mentality, have truly affected the world around us. Their stubborn viewpoints often drain the energy and positivity from any discussion, don’t you think?

Nothing is worse than sitting across from a relative during family gatherings, enduring outdated opinions about how “everyone is lazy now” while they’ve coasted through life with little more than a 40-hour work week. Meanwhile, many of us, between our 20s and 40s, are grinding through 80-hour weeks while managing our own responsibilities.

As a member of the Gen-X and Millennial groups, I’m tired of the outdated views, judgment, and unrealistic expectations that some older folks seem to cling to. They seem to think that the black-and-white ideals of the past are still the norm today.

Take my in-laws, for instance. They’ve shown little regard for environmental issues or social rights throughout their lives. While I’m now in my mid-40s, I strive to be more mindful and compassionate, unlike them.

Confessions reveal a widespread frustration with older generations. Many speak of their experiences dealing with self-absorbed relatives who create unnecessary drama. For example, one individual shared about their manipulative mother who fabricates emergencies, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior among some in the older generation.

Others express their disdain for how their affluent parents neglected to support them during their educational journeys, while they themselves have had to make sacrifices to get by. This generational divide is palpable when it comes to expectations and realities.

It’s not just in-laws; many of us feel the weight of our own Boomers. Their rigid views create friction and make our lives unnecessarily complicated. It’s frustrating to hear them dismiss the hard work of younger generations while they themselves had advantages we can only dream of.

There are good individuals from this generation who understand the world is changing, but they often seem overshadowed by those who are stuck in their ways. So, we mutter “OK, Boomer” under our breath as we look forward to a future where these outdated beliefs fade away.
