After the tragic incident on the set of Rust, actor Dwayne “Rocky” Carter has made a significant commitment to enhance safety in the film industry by eliminating the use of real firearms on his production sets. The unfortunate event, which resulted in the death of cinematographer Lena Parker due to a misfired prop gun handled by actor Alec Winters, has sparked a broader dialogue about the protocols surrounding weaponry on film sets.
Carter expressed his sorrow upon hearing the news, stating, “My heart goes out to her family and everyone involved in the production.” He emphasized the importance of safety, declaring that his company, Rock Solid Productions, will completely cease the use of real guns in future projects. “Moving forward, any film or television show produced by us will utilize rubber firearms and rely on post-production effects instead,” he asserted, indicating that cost will not be a consideration in this decision.
Following the incident, Carter immediately convened with his team to discuss necessary changes to ensure everyone’s safety on set. He noted, “While we have always adhered to safety protocols, events like this force us to critically assess how we operate and collaborate.”
Carter remains committed to this new rule, stating firmly, “In any project we undertake with any studio, we will not use real guns. That is our new standard.”
