Dear Beloved Children,
You are extraordinary beings, and each breath you take is a testament to the miracles of life. It serves as a reminder that love prevails and that hope is always within reach.
Every day, you may notice the scars on your father’s skin. They are thick, unsightly, and may appear painful. Indeed, they once were. Yet, behind these scars lies a profound beauty—a narrative of resilience, a tale of healing that I want to share with you.
Your father and I bear scars that symbolize our battles. They are not mere marks; they are reminders of the fierce wars we fought—conflicts between light and dark, life and death, and good versus evil. These struggles unfolded within our minds, affecting our hearts and spirits, costing us dearly in terms of freedom and joy. However, overcoming these battles gifted us a renewed sense of life and liberation.
These conflicts are rooted in addiction, a war that countless individuals engage in daily. It’s a cunning adversary, often undetected until it has ensnared you in its grip. It deceives you into believing you’re in control while systematically stripping you of everything dear. It’s dangerous and relentless, seeking to extinguish the light of life.
Yet, there is hope. Your genetic makeup may predispose you to addiction, but let me assure you, my sweet children: there is an alternative path. You need not traverse the depths of despair to discover a fulfilling life.
I pray each day that you will not have to confront such battles to appreciate the beauty of existence. I wish for you to never feel the depths of despair that your father and I experienced. I hope you never face the agonizing temptation of self-harm while grappling with internal demons.
Most importantly, if you ever find yourself in a place where the pain feels insurmountable and the thought of escape seems like the only solution, remember our scars. They are symbols of survival, proof that the fight for life is worthwhile. In your darkest hour, when all seems lost, I promise you—God will manifest in your life, offering you the gift of hope and new beginnings. All it takes is a willingness to accept that gift.
Our struggles brought us profound darkness, but yours need not mirror ours. You can discover serenity without engaging in conflict. You can find hope before despair takes root. You can experience joy without first knowing sorrow. And you can lead a rich, fulfilling life without facing death.
Allow our journey to guide you. Let our experiences illuminate your path, and may our scars serve as your beacon of hope.
With all my love,
Mom
