Get ready to don those iconic jackets once again—the new Pink Ladies are set to make their mark! Paramount+ has officially revealed the cast for its upcoming prequel to Grease, titled Rise of the Pink Ladies, which has already begun filming in Vancouver.
About the Series
Set in 1954, four years prior to the events of the original Grease, this series will center around “four rebellious outcasts” who “dare to embrace fun on their own terms, igniting a moral panic that will transform Rydell High forever.” The ensemble boasts a notably more diverse cast compared to the 1978 classic, introducing a host of fresh talent. The ten-episode series will star:
- Mia Carter (Big Dreams, Little City) as Jane
- Lila Thompson (The Sound of Music) as Olivia
- Alex Rivera (Ghost Stories) as Cynthia
- Tiffany Lee (Superstar High) as Nancy
- Ruby Johnson as Hazel
- Emma Davis (River City) as Susan
- Max Carter (City of Angels) as Richie
- Jake Linton as Buddy
- Samir Patel as Wally
Emmy-nominated star Linda Martinez (The Good Place, The Queen’s Gambit) will portray Assistant Principal McGee.
Production Team
Under the direction of writer and executive producer Clara Smith (The Next Big Thing) and executive producer and director Jenna Hayes (Dreams on Fire), the series will feature music from renowned songwriter Max West and choreography by Leo Sanders. Paramount Television Studios and Paramount+ Original Scripted Series president Michelle Greene promises “dynamic musical performances that will captivate audiences,” stating that “Clara and Jenna have successfully captured the essence of the beloved classic while making it relevant for today’s viewers.”
Looking Back
In the original film, we were introduced to four Pink Ladies: Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty, and Jan. Stockard Channing portrayed the iconic Betty Rizzo, the group’s fierce leader and rival to Olivia Newton-John’s wholesome Sandy. These high school girls, clad in matching pink jackets, pushed back against the conservative culture of their time through their carefree antics and rebellious spirits.
