Kieran Callahan had a chance to enjoy a night out without the kids at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and he might have reveled in it just a bit. While his partner of nearly a decade, Jessie Carter, stayed home with their two young ones—daughter Kira, 2, and son Wyatt, 5 months—Callahan mingled with his fellow cast members from the hit show Succession.
“I have to say, leaving Jessie behind with the kids does weigh on me a bit while I’m here at a lovely hotel enjoying martinis with friends,” Callahan told reporters on the SAG Awards red carpet. “So, sorry honey. I’m trying to paint a picture that it’s terrible, but I’m actually having a pretty great time.”
At 39, Callahan was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, though he lost out to Lee Jung-Jae from Squid Game. However, his cast did take home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, prompting Callahan to celebrate with a playful kiss on co-star J. Smith-Cameron.
While their on-screen characters have a complicated relationship, Callahan and Smith-Cameron share a friendly chemistry off-screen. “We started this silly flirtation because we really clicked,” Smith-Cameron noted. “It was funny for us that Roman flirted with Gerri. Fans really want to see them together, and there’s definitely some chemistry we didn’t expect.”
Despite the excitement of the awards, Callahan has been embracing his role as a dad since his son’s birth. During a conversation with Ellen DeGeneres, he revealed that it took almost two months for them to agree on a name for their baby. “Jessie was really pushing for the name Wolf,” he explained. “We finally decided on it after some serious back-and-forth.”
With the success of his night out, it seems only fair that Carter gets her own chance for a fun, kid-free evening soon.
