Blake Smith is embracing the joys of being a stepdad! In a recent conversation at the Country Radio Seminar with People, the country music star and coach on The Voice expressed his deep affection for his wife Anna’s three sons—Jaxon (15), Leo (13), and Finn (8)—who she shares with her former partner, Mark Brown.
Reflecting on his relationship with Anna, Blake humorously admitted that when he first began dating her in 2015, he had no idea what he was getting into concerning her having three children. However, he quickly realized that he was “all in” and thanks to the example set by his father, James Smith, who raised Blake’s late half-brother with unwavering love, he felt prepared for the challenge.
“My dad took my brother in and raised him from when he was just a toddler… and my brother always regarded my dad as his actual father,” Blake shared about his brother, who tragically passed away at a young age. “My dad’s legacy taught me that the number of kids in a relationship is not a deterrent. Three boys? Fantastic! My dad navigated this, so I can too. And each day, my love for these boys grows just as much as my love for Anna.”
Initially, things were a bit rocky between Blake and Anna’s two older boys. When they first came to visit his expansive ranch in Oklahoma, they were unsure how to explore the vast wilderness. “The boys were like, ‘What do we do now?’” Blake laughed, recalling their initial hesitance. “I told them to go outside and not return until they were worn out! They couldn’t fathom just wandering down to the creek or getting on a buggy.”
However, as Blake began to teach them how to fish and explore the outdoors, the boys quickly adapted and found joy in their new rural adventures. Blake joked, “When it comes to burning things and throwing hatchets, just stay out of the way!”
Blake and Anna tied the knot on July 3, 2021, at his sprawling Oklahoma ranch, after meeting as coaches on The Voice in 2015. After both experienced public divorces, they found solace and love in one another, leading to their happy blended family today.
