Is it just me, or has everyone been eagerly waiting for March 25th, when Bridgerton returns for a second season packed with drama, romance, and, let’s be honest, some sizzling hot encounters? (If you haven’t seen the tantalizing teaser for season two yet, you’re in for a treat). While Regé-Jean Page, the beloved Simon, won’t be back, I’m hoping for more of those iconic stair encounters, hallway threesomes, and spontaneous moments of passion, even if it’s just a garden kiss or intimate hand-holding.
For those who haven’t yet experienced the phenomenon that is Bridgerton, it’s a witty and scandalous series set in Regency-era England, chronicling the Bridgerton family’s quest for love amid a cutthroat marriage market. It beautifully encapsulates the essence of lifelong friendships, familial bonds, and, yes, the pursuit of love that triumphs over all—along with a generous dose of steamy scenes.
I find myself yearning to live through the passionate escapades depicted in Bridgerton, especially since real-life romance feels a bit out of reach these days. When season one debuted in the midst of the pandemic, it became my guilty pleasure, a delightful distraction from the chaos of homeschooling toddlers, managing a household, and juggling a full-time job.
Don’t get me wrong; while my partner and I share a strong emotional and physical connection, we’re both utterly exhausted. Even during weekends away, where relaxation should be the priority, we often prefer an early night over a passionate rendezvous. Sure, we fantasize about those wild encounters, but the reality—finding the energy, prepping, and cleaning up—is often far too daunting.
Bridgerton isn’t solely about the steamy scenes; it’s rich in friendship and family drama, with characters fervently searching for true love. While I’ve found my own love and enjoy a relatively drama-free life (well, except for that one cousin), perhaps I crave the excitement of an alternate reality. Sure, London’s high society isn’t calling my name, but I wouldn’t mind a touch of Julie Andrews narrating my life, even if few would tune in.
Despite my exhaustion, the allure of intimacy remains. Watching the passionate encounters unfold in Bridgerton always reignites that feeling of “Let’s do this.” More often than not, though, it ends up being “Let’s sleep and try again later.”
