It’s Me, Mom

Since my journey into motherhood began in the early days of 2013, I have been an avid admirer of this community. I vividly recall spending my maternity leave curled up on the couch, watching reality shows and enjoying the simple pleasure of scrolling through social media, laughing at the relatable content shared by fellow moms.

I realized then — just as I do now — that we’re reaching out to the candid and sassy friend who doesn’t hold back. This platform has consistently showcased the real stories of mothers who are fearless in sharing their truths, who are honest about the struggles, and who care deeply not just for their own children but for every child out there. I appreciate how this space has encouraged me to confront my own realities with newfound courage.

The past few years have been particularly challenging for mothers. Since the onset of the pandemic, we’ve faced immense pressures, often reaching our limits yet still expected to push through without substantial support from our workplaces or government. We’ve cried out for assistance, only to receive platitudes like, “you’re doing great, sweetie.”

It’s from this perspective — one that feels like we’re well past our breaking points — that we’re stepping into a fresh start. You’ll notice a new, inviting look to our platform, but at our core, we remain the same. With this new chapter, I’m committed to delivering not only those raw, honest accounts of motherhood, relationships, and mental well-being, but also narratives that speak to our experiences as women navigating this world.

I’ve been reflecting on the yard signs that have become popular over the last few years. You know the ones: “In this house, we believe…” While they can sometimes feel like a competition among neighbors, they also provide a clear way to express one’s values. So, here’s what we stand for at our community:

  • We believe in the power of laughter.
  • We believe in not taking life too seriously.
  • We believe every woman should define her own motherhood journey, however that may unfold.
  • We believe motherhood is one of the toughest unpaid roles out there.
  • We believe in the strength of community.

These are unusual times. Even after two years, the landscape feels confusing and unpredictable. While we may not know precisely where we’re headed next, I assure you that, regardless of our new appearance, this will continue to be a welcoming space for you.

When I took on the role of Editor-in-Chief, my youngest son, in kindergarten at the time, innocently remarked, “You’re a mommy now, mommy.” And he’s absolutely right; I have always been one.
