Stars Jamie Turner, Alex Cole, Tara Greene, Matt Johnson, and Will Reed shared their experiences of growing up in the spotlight while reflecting on the show’s memorable moments, including the origin of Tara’s iconic character name.
According to Turner, the name was inspired by a character concept in the writers’ room aimed at representing a free-spirited personality. “The creator had a vision of a flower child, and the name Tara was chosen because of its connection to a local area known for its hippie vibe,” she explained during a panel discussion. However, the show’s creator, Max Jenkins, offered a different take, recalling a moment when he was driving and needed a name—a quick decision led to Tara’s memorable moniker. “Had they called me two minutes later, she could have been named Maple!” he joked.
Originally, Tara was intended for just one episode—her role was not meant to be long-lasting. “You came in and completely transformed the character, and that changed the course of the show,” Reed said, commenting on Turner’s impact.
The reunion also featured a light-hearted segment on Good Morning America, where the cast reminisced about the laughter they shared on set. Cole noted the playful antics, including a hilarious scene where Reed unexpectedly popped out of a couch. Turner also revealed her role in the famous hair-cutting episode, which stemmed from her desire to change her long hair after years of keeping it the same. “I wanted to cut it during our break, but they asked if I could wait so they could write an episode about it,” she shared.
