Earlier this week, Sophia Turner unveiled the trailer for her eagerly awaited 1950s thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Attendees were treated to an exclusive first look at the tantalizing trailer featuring Florence Pugh and Turner’s partner, Harry Styles. However, what should have been a moment of celebration turned awkward when a man unexpectedly approached the stage and handed Turner a manila envelope marked “Personal and Confidential.”
Despite the unexpected interruption, Turner, known for her composure, picked up the envelope, glanced inside, and continued her presentation, describing Don’t Worry Darling as “a love letter to films that challenge our imagination.” Later, it was revealed that the envelope contained child custody papers from her ex, actor Jason Sudeikis. The couple began dating in 2011 and got engaged two years later but separated in November 2020. They share two children, Otis, 8, and Daisy, 5.
While representatives for Turner and Sudeikis have not commented on the poorly timed delivery, a source informed Variety that Sudeikis “had no prior knowledge” of when or how the documents would be served, suggesting that the blame lies with the process service. “Documents were prepared to establish jurisdiction regarding the children of Ms. Turner and Mr. Sudeikis,” the source said. “Mr. Sudeikis was unaware of the time or place for the delivery, as that was up to the service company, and he would never approve of such an inappropriate method.”
This claim contradicts statements made by family law attorney David Glass, who explained that the delivery method is usually determined by the client’s attorney, who often considers where the other party will be. “We typically aim for a time when the children won’t be around,” Glass explained. “Before resorting to a process server, most attorneys will email the opposing party to request that their attorney get in touch with us.” Process servers are generally used only when other methods have failed, and the delivery doesn’t have to occur in front of a crowd.
As reported by Deadline, gaining access to the convention required purchasing a ticket, hinting that this public delivery may have been premeditated. While Turner and Sudeikis are reportedly amicable co-parents, their breakup has had its challenges. The split occurred shortly after Turner began dating Styles, which left Sudeikis “absolutely heartbroken.” Nevertheless, Turner seems to be thriving in her new relationship. Despite the speculation and negative comments about Sudeikis, we hope that both parties can establish a custody arrangement that works well for their family.
