Dear Children,

As your parents, our primary concern often revolves around teaching you essential safety measures, like looking both ways before crossing streets, avoiding hot surfaces, and steering clear of unknown animals. However, there are numerous life lessons of equal significance that we might not have explicitly communicated. It seems I’ve assumed you inherently grasp these concepts, but your reactions suggest otherwise. Thus, I present several key lessons that you may find beneficial.

1. Naps Are Your Allies

Contrary to your beliefs, naptime is not a battle to be fought; it’s an opportunity to be cherished. Naps are incredibly beneficial! When someone suggests snuggling into your comfy bed during the day and encourages you to sleep as long as you want, please take that advice seriously. You’re sitting on a hidden treasure, yet you often react to the idea of napping as if you’re about to lose something monumental. Once you realize that guilt-free daytime rest is a rare luxury, perhaps your response to “Let’s take a nap!” will change from a dramatic outburst to eager compliance.

2. Personal Hygiene is Important

You often resist getting your nails clipped, your hair trimmed, or even taking a bath. I sometimes feel like I’m trying to give a haircut to a wild animal! Understand that these grooming activities, known as manicures, pedicures, and haircuts, are services that adults pay for. You have a stylist on call, 24/7—me! So please sit back, relax, and appreciate the grooming you receive without any cost to you.

3. Your Laundry is a Marvel

The laundry process must seem like magic to you. You toss your clothes into the hamper (or wherever they may land) and they reappear clean and folded. What you don’t see is the hard work involved in sorting and washing clothes. You also have a wardrobe stylist who chooses outfits for you each day. Appreciate the simplicity of having someone handle your clothing choices—this is not something to take for granted.

4. You Have a Personal Chef

Imagine not having to ponder meal planning, grocery shopping, or cooking! You don’t need to scour the fridge for something to eat or deal with budgeting. Your only responsibility is to sit at the dinner table when called, and there’s a nutritious meal prepared just for you. Remember, I even cool your food to ensure it’s ready to eat. So next time you’re picking out “yucky pieces” from your plate, consider the effort behind that meal.

5. Transportation is Effortless

When was the last time you navigated through traffic or searched for parking? Oh, that’s right—you’ve never had to! You have the luxury of relaxing in the back seat, whether you choose to listen to music, play on your tablet, or simply enjoy the scenery. Your chauffeur (me) handles all the driving, ensuring you arrive safely without any hassle or expense.

I hope this letter encourages you to recognize and appreciate the numerous privileges you enjoy daily. You’re receiving amenities that many would envy. You even have someone who stands by to feed you grapes—oh wait, that’s me, too!

Embrace these luxuries while you can; adulthood will not afford you such comforts.

With Love,
Mom
