Navigating Acceptance in Parenting: A Letter to Myself

“Liam! Can you please come out of the closet?” I called out to my son, genuinely hoping he would stop playing hide-and-seek in there.

“Okay, Mommy! Here I come!” he exclaimed, bursting from the closet and launching himself into my arms.

Liam is such a beautiful child, with delicate features and wide, expressive eyes that make him irresistibly charming. He has a fondness for pink and purple, often strutting around the house in my heels, his tiny fingers constantly reapplying cherry Chapstick, ensuring his lips are perfectly glossy.

While his sister, Mia, who is five, has always embraced her girly side, Liam doesn’t fit neatly into the traditional molds of masculinity or femininity. I don’t believe he is gay, nor do I think Mia is. However, I reflect on how I would respond if either of them were to come out as homosexual in the future. To preserve my current beliefs, I decided to pen a letter to myself—something I frequently do on my blog—to ensure that my feelings are clear when that time arrives.
