To the Mother Finding It Hard to Keep It Together,

I want to share something significant with you: I don’t see you.

Now, before you close this page, please allow me to explain. While it’s true that I don’t see you, I understand the challenges you’re facing.

I know that you are often drained, relying on caffeine and stress to get through your day. I know you strive to fulfill your roles as a mother, partner, daughter, and friend, yet frequently feel like you’re falling short in every area. I can imagine you silently screaming, “There’s only one of me!” more times than you can count.

I recognize the profound love you have for your children, paired with the heavy guilt of not living up to your own expectations. Some days, the desire to escape feels overwhelming, yet you find yourself parked in the grocery lot, reluctant to leave the solitude of your car.

I understand that the burden of responsibility can feel paralyzing at times. Your to-do list likely includes mundane tasks like scheduling dental appointments, picking out teacher gifts, tidying up, attending school meetings, managing laundry, grocery shopping, organizing playdates, pondering “What’s for dinner?” and even reminding yourself to shower.

Juggling these responsibilities while raising little ones can seem insurmountable for one person. You might worry that you’re not patient, fun, or present enough. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, disorganized, and inadequate.

I relate to all of this because I experience it too. I don’t see your struggle, but I am you. The truth is, like many mothers, you hide behind a brave face. You smile even when anxiety creeps in. Each morning, you muster the strength to pull it together and tackle what lies ahead. You are resilient; you are a mother.

While I may not notice your internal battles, I assure you that the only one who truly sees your “weaknesses” is you. I believe every mom experiences these feelings at some point. The ups and downs of motherhood create cracks in our “Super Mom” facade; we are simply human.

Remember this the next time you feel like the only disheveled mom at the playground. Although it might not be apparent, many of us wear our own masks, and you are certainly not alone in feeling like you’re dropping the ball. That’s why we have one another, and perhaps a glass of wine or some chocolate to lean on.

You’ve got this, mama. Don’t forget to give yourself a breather. Perfection is overrated anyway.

With love,
Your Fellow Exhausted Mom
