Dear Graduates, today we come together to honor your hard work and commitment over the past years. You’ve traveled an incredible journey to reach this milestone, and just to clarify, hats are not for hitting each other!
Graduation signifies your transition from preschool to the brink of becoming true kindergartners. While you’ll encounter various challenges ahead, remember that resilience and determination are essential tools you all possess.
Some of the most valuable lessons won’t be found in textbooks but rather in the lunchroom and on the playground. These lessons aren’t just about avoiding sloppy joe days or the hot monkey bar handles in the sun—though those are important too! The real learning will come from your interactions with one another. Embrace the opportunity to connect and share experiences.
Be a Friend
On your first day of school, seek out that child sitting alone in the cafeteria, or the little girl who misses her mom. Reach out to those who seem lonely on the playground during games of zombies vs. werewolves. Be their friend, reassure them, and invite them to play. Encourage your peers to do the same.
Stand Up for Kindness
Standing up for others is vital. If you witness unkindness, intervene. Remind those around you that kindness makes playtime much more enjoyable for everyone. The world needs individuals who stand against meanness—be those people!
Celebrate Uniqueness
Always cherish the uniqueness of each individual. It’s wonderful that everyone looks, sounds, and thinks differently. If someone has interests that appear unusual or intimidating to you, don’t shy away. Ask questions and celebrate their differences. There’s joy in befriending those who don’t mirror our own experiences.
Embrace Your Differences
You are allowed to be different. There’s no need to conform to the same styles, preferences, or tastes as your friends. You each have the freedom to like what you enjoy and express yourselves any way you choose. Remember, you have your own life to explore, and you can make it magnificent by being true to yourselves!
Be Helpers
Be helpers in this world, regardless of your age. Your actions matter, and you can contribute positively. If someone falls, check to see if they’re alright. Lend a hand to a friend struggling with a heavy backpack. Wipe the board for your teacher or offer comfort to a sad classmate. These small acts of kindness are far more significant than any academic achievement.
Focus on Play and Exploration
As for your future, don’t feel pressured to decide your career at this moment. Adults often ask children about their future jobs because they are unsure what else to discuss. Your priority now is to play, explore, and imagine. Build, dismantle, and create stories. Have adventurous days filled with fun!
Fashion Freedom
In adulthood, you may have to adhere to certain dress codes or professional appearances, but for now, embrace your wildest fashion choices. Wear your sparkly outfits, play dress-up, and let your imagination run free.
Get Creative!
Get creative! You’re not limited to creating ordinary things. If you think a horse should be sparkle aqua instead of brown, go for it! Use glue, scissors (with parental guidance), and your imagination to construct unique projects.
Learning Journey
You will learn reading, writing, and math, and while some concepts may take longer for some of you to grasp, that’s perfectly okay. View school as an exciting adventure, and be kind to yourselves throughout the learning process.
We, as adults, do not expect you to be flawless. Mistakes are part of the learning journey, just like cleaning up a big mess. Remember that life is similar; messes can be cleaned. If you don’t get a part in the school play, celebrate your friend’s success, knowing your moment will come. Disappointments are universal, but so are the chances to shine.
Congratulations on your preschool graduation! We are incredibly proud of each one of you.
