What Does It Mean to Have a True ‘Best Friend’

So, what exactly is a “best friend”? Is it just a fantasy we conjure up from our school days? Some sort of trophy we think we’ve earned? Or perhaps the ultimate companion anyone could hope for? The truth is, it can be all of those things and so much more.

Take my best friend, for instance. She knows me almost better than I know myself—sometimes even better! We each have our circle of friends, but if you were to ask me who my “best friend” is, I wouldn’t hesitate: it’s her. We’ve been through thick and thin for nearly thirty years now.

My bestie has been there for me when I was at my lowest, even when no one else seemed to care. She comforted me through heartbreaks and picked me up when my world felt like it was crashing down. She’s been more than just a friend; she’s been a sister, a roommate, and sometimes even a rival.

She doesn’t hold back when it comes to honesty. When I’m being stubborn, she’s the one to call me out. She’s traveled for me, fought for me, and has always been a constant in my life. No matter where we are in the world or how much time has passed, there’s always that unbreakable bond between us.

They say love lasts forever, and I’d argue that true friendship can transcend any kind of love. We’ve navigated life’s ups and downs: distance, relationships, marriages, and kids. Yet that connection remains strong and unwavering.

Even when months go by without a conversation, we can pick up right where we left off. We share everything—the good, the bad, and even the downright ridiculous. Husbands, boyfriends, and all those wild fantasies—we spill it all without fear of judgment. And when we hang up, it’s never goodbye; it’s just a pause until we reconnect.

Without my wonderful friend, I honestly don’t know how I would have managed through life’s chaos. Countless times, she’s been the one showing me there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Whether she’s physically by my side or just a text away, her support has been invaluable.

A best friend doesn’t need to share your bloodline or even agree with you all the time. Instead, they’re your safe haven, your protector, and often a reflection of your true self—flaws and all.

So here’s to my partner in crime, my laughter buddy, and my ultimate support system. I love you, and you truly embody what it means to be the best.

In summary, having a true best friend is like having a soulmate who supports you through every twist and turn. They can lift you when you’re down, celebrate your highs, and share every crazy moment in between. It’s a bond that lasts through time and distance, reminding you that no matter where life takes you, you’re never truly alone.
