In a powerful gesture of support, celebrity Chrissy Teigen has offered to pay $100,000 to McKayla Maroney, a former USA gymnast who has bravely come forward with allegations of sexual abuse against ex-team doctor Larry Nassar. Maroney, who filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics last fall, revealed that the organization had silenced her with a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), essentially paying her to keep quiet about the abuse she endured.
Nassar, who has been accused by over 140 women of sexual misconduct, is currently facing sentencing for multiple counts of abuse and possession of child pornography. As many survivors begin to share their heartbreaking experiences in court, Maroney’s situation has drawn significant attention. She faces a daunting $100,000 penalty if she wishes to speak out about her trauma.
Teigen, recognizing the injustice of such NDAs, took to Twitter to express her willingness to cover the fine, stating, “The entire principle of this should be fought. An NDA to stay quiet about this serial monster with over 140 accusers, but I would be absolutely honored to help.”
