What did we do before the era of streaming? When I tell my kids that I used to wait an entire week for the next episode of my favorite series, they look at me as if I’m from another planet. Concepts like “season premiere” and “must-see TV” Fridays are completely foreign to them. Today’s kids have it so easy with the plethora of shows available at their fingertips!

I’m a huge fan of cozy nights in front of the TV, especially during those long winter evenings. If you’re on the hunt for a new series to binge, here are some top picks.

Breaking Bad (Netflix)

It’s no surprise that Breaking Bad tops every “best shows” list. This gripping series follows a high school chemistry teacher with terminal cancer who turns to meth production to secure his family’s future. It’s an absolute must-see.

Ozark (Netflix)

Jason Bateman shines as Marty Byrde, a financial consultant who finds himself embroiled in money laundering for a drug cartel. Set against the backdrop of the Lake of the Ozarks, this dark drama showcases Marty and his wife Wendy’s struggle to keep their family safe while navigating dangerous waters. Be prepared to lose track of time!

Atypical (Netflix)

This poignant series offers a heartfelt look at a teenager on the autism spectrum. Sam, the protagonist, decides to explore dating, prompting his mother, portrayed by Amanda Reilly, to embark on her own transformative journey. Atypical is definitely on my “must-watch” list.

The Crown (Netflix)

For fans of period dramas, The Crown is a feast for the eyes. Claire Foy captivates as a young Queen Elizabeth II navigating the challenges of her reign after her father’s sudden death. With stunning costumes and enthralling plots, it’s perfect for those who miss the charm of shows like Downton Abbey.

Blackish (Hulu)

This comedy series follows the Johnson family, an upper-middle-class African-American household. Through humor, Blackish tackles serious issues such as racism and gender inequality. Don’t miss the impactful episode “Lemons,” where the family reflects on post-election America.

Broadchurch (Netflix)

For those who enjoy British murder mysteries, Broadchurch is a gripping series set in a small town where the community grapples with the shocking murder of a young boy. The suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment.

Living Single (Hulu)

If you missed this iconic 90s sitcom, it’s time to catch up! With Queen Latifah leading a talented cast, Living Single captures the essence of friendship and life in Brooklyn. The show is now available on Hulu, so there’s no excuse to not binge-watch.

How I Met Your Mother (Amazon)

Initially skeptical, I finally dove into How I Met Your Mother and found it worth every minute. The story revolves around Ted and his friends, including the hilarious Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris. It’s a fun ride full of laughs and heartfelt moments.

Stranger Things (Netflix)

If you’re into supernatural thrillers with a nostalgic 80s vibe, Stranger Things is your perfect match. A group of kids investigates strange occurrences in their town, leading to eerie adventures. With Winona Ryder and David Harbour, this series is a binge-worthy delight.

ER (Hulu)

The classic medical drama ER is now available on Hulu, and you should definitely dive into all nine seasons. It’s a timeless series with unforgettable performances, including George Clooney’s breakout role.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)

For fans of period pieces, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an absolute gem. Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of Miriam Maisel, a Jewish housewife who pursues a career in stand-up comedy after her husband’s betrayal. You’ll be hooked from the start.

If you have a little extra time, consider these honorable mentions:

  • Game of Thrones (HBO): Essential viewing to join the conversations happening everywhere.
  • Cheers (Amazon): A classic sitcom that never gets old.
  • The Office (Netflix): Because, obviously, it’s a must-watch.
  • Orange Is The New Black (Netflix): Riveting storytelling and memorable characters make this series unmissable.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to dive back into The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Sorry, kids, dinner can wait!
